Guy Ritchie’s highly anticipated series starring Tom Hardy and Pierce Brosnan has reached an important milestone with a major filming update. Titled The Associate under its working name (previously known as The Donovans), this global crime TV show focuses on two feuding families and a “fixer” tasked with safeguarding one of them. Hardy takes on the role of Harry Da Souza, a professional conciliator for the Harrigan family, while Brosnan portrays Conrad Harrigan, the leader of a successful Irish crime family. Helen Mirren also joins the cast as Maeve Harrigan, Conrad’s wife.
Filming Commences in London
Filming for the series has officially kicked off in London. Set to air on Paramount+ and Showtime, representatives from both companies shared their enthusiasm about the project. Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO and President/CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, praised the cast, stating, “Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren are masters at their craft and we are honored to have them lead the cast for Guy Richie’s new global, original series. Guy, Jez Butterworth and Ronan Bennett’s creative prowess, coupled with these gifted actors, is the perfect recipe for what we believe will be the next brand-defining series for Showtime on Paramount+.”
Jeff Grossman, Executive Vice President of programming for Paramount+, also expressed excitement, saying, “The firepower on and off the screen in this new Guy Ritchie crime series will deliver exactly what audiences expect from Paramount + with Showtime: high-caliber acting, high-impact storylines, and high-level production from some of the best in the business.”
Why the Series Is Promising
A Star-Studded Crime Series
Originally conceived as a spinoff of Ray Donovan, which had a similar “fixer” premise, The Associate seems set to up the ante with its focus on two warring crime families. The cast alone, with their reputations and past collaborations, makes it a series to watch. Ritchie will be reuniting with Hardy after working together on 2008’s RocknRolla, and Brosnan and Mirren will be back together since starring in 1980’s The Long Good Friday.
Ritchie’s Success in the Crime Genre
Given Ritchie’s history of success in the crime genre, having made his filmmaking mark with crime films and recently returning to it with Netflix’s The Gentlemen, along with the suitability of the cast for gangster/crime roles, there’s every reason to expect great things from this collaboration in The Associate. Despite filming just starting, the series already shows great potential.
