Nearly five years after the end of “The Good Place,” Kristen Bell has reunited with some of her former co-stars, as confirmed by one of them. Created by Michael Schur of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “Parks and Recreation” fame, the NBC supernatural comedy delved into the afterlives of a group of people who initially thought they were in the idyllic “Good Place,” only to discover they were actually in Hell, or the “Bad Place.” Bell was part of an ensemble cast that included Ted Danson, William Jackson Harper, Jameela Jamil, D’Arcy Carden, and Manny Jacinto.
The Success of “The Good Place”
Across its four seasons, “The Good Place” received widespread acclaim, earning 14 Emmy and two Golden Globe nominations. While Bell and Danson were already established stars, the show helped launch the careers of many of its other main actors. Harper and Jamil went on to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Carden co-starred in a short-lived “A League of Their Own” adaptation, and Jacinto was in the recent “The Acolyte” Star Wars show.
Kristen Bell’s Cameo Confirmed
Danson and Schur recently worked together again on Netflix’s “A Man on the Inside.” In this show, Danson plays Charles Nieuwendyk, a widower and retired college professor who takes on a new role working for a private detective and goes undercover in a San Francisco retirement home to find a missing necklace. Adapted from an Oscar-nominated documentary, “A Man on the Inside” has received great reviews, with viewers noticing various Easter eggs and references to “The Good Place.”
One such connection was a character in the season finale wearing a sweater like the one Kristen Bell’s Eleanor Shellstrop wore in “The Good Place,” with the character’s back to the camera. D’Arcy Carden has now confirmed on Instagram that it was indeed Bell making a hidden cameo in the ending. She shared a photo of Bell in the sweater with their fellow “Good Place” alumni Marc Evan Jackson and Danson, captioning it “Another mystery solved.”
What Bell’s Cameo Means for “A Man on the Inside”
Schur’s Collaborator Trend
Bell’s cameo in “A Man on the Inside” highlights Schur’s tendency to work with the same actors repeatedly. Jackson not only starred in the show as Danson’s boss but also had recurring roles in “Parks and Recreation” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” Stephanie Beatriz also reunited with Schur for “A Man on the Inside” in a regular role.
Future Cameo Possibilities
With many actors already making appearances in the first season of “A Man on the Inside,” there’s a good chance more “Good Place” actors could show up in a potential season 2. Given the open-ended conclusion of season 1 with Danson’s Charles accepting a new mission, Schur could easily write in any of his former stars, perhaps even giving Bell a proper role, considering her ongoing partnership with Netflix for the romantic comedy show “Nobody Wants This,” which has season 2 in the works.
