The development of Top Gun 3 began in February 2024, with production expected to ramp up in 2025. Tom Cruise, Glen Powell, and Miles Teller are set to return, though progress has been slow due to Cruise’s commitments to projects like Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning.
In a recent interview, Greg Tarzan Davis, a star from Top Gun: Maverick, discussed the sequel’s development. He revealed that the creative team is carefully shaping the film to meet high expectations and shared his surprise when Top Gun 3 was officially announced.
Davis’ comments suggest he may be considered for a role in the sequel, much like Powell, who has already confirmed his return. Other actors, including Jay Ellis, Jon Hamm, and Danny Ramirez, are still uncertain about their participation. Davis’ ongoing relationship with Cruise could work in his favor. Fans are also hopeful that characters like Monica Barbaro’s Phoenix, as well as supporting roles from Manny Jacinto’s Fritz and Raymond Lee’s Yale, will have opportunities to return in Top Gun 3.
