Russell Crowe has lavished praise on Ryan Gosling’s 2024 action movie that amassed $181 million globally. Crowe, renowned for roles like Maximus in “Gladiator” and John Nash in “A Beautiful Mind”, and Gosling, with a diverse career from “Half Nelson” to “Barbie”, worked together in 2016’s “The Nice Guys”. This buddy cop movie, directed by Shane Black, was highly regarded, scoring 91% critically and 79% with audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.
Gosling’s “The Fall Guy”, an action comedy inspired by an 80s TV series, stars him as Colt Seavers and Emily Blunt as Jody Moreno. Despite having an 81% critical score and 85% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, its box office of $181 million against a $125 million budget was underwhelming. However, Crowe’s review on X (formerly Twitter) was glowing. He described it as “a lot of fun” and “worth the watch”, commending the performances of Gosling and Blunt and how the movie transitions between drama, comedy, and romance.
Crowe’s review aligns with the movie’s generally positive reception. Much of the talk around “The Fall Guy” has been about its box office disappointment despite its quality. Crowe’s endorsement is a reminder that the movie’s merits stand on their own and that box office figures shouldn’t overshadow the viewing enjoyment. His promotion also shows the bond he formed with Gosling during “The Nice Guys” and his respect for Gosling’s work.
