Larry David Returns as George Steinbrenner

by Barbara Miller

Larry David, co-creator of “Seinfeld”, has reprised his most famous role as former New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner in a new video. During the sitcom’s 1989 – 1998 run on NBC, David made multiple cameos, but Steinbrenner was his standout character as George Costanza’s boss.

In the new Topps video, John Elway reminisces about being drafted by the Yankees in 1981, and the Seinfeld version of Steinbrenner is shown in his office, with the set and character presentation similar to how it was in the series.

This video is part of a pattern of Seinfeld characters being brought back since the finale. There were appearances in “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee”. David’s return as Steinbrenner shows he’s willing to embrace the show’s legacy, which delights fans.

Despite the controversial finale, “Seinfeld” remains hugely popular. The video has Easter eggs for fans, like references to Keith Hernandez and Steinbrenner’s love of calzones. Bringing back a recurring character after so long highlights the show’s lasting impact and enduring legacy on television.
