Lin-Manuel Miranda, who plays Hermes in “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” on Disney+, has confirmed he’ll be back for season 2. The series, adapting Rick Riordan’s novels, will have season 2 based on “The Sea of Monsters”. Miranda noted his character has a role in the book and that he’s already filmed his part.
What Hermes’ return means for season 2 is that it continues the show’s faithful approach to the source material. In the novel, Hermes provides crucial help to Percy, and the show’s depiction aligns more closely with the book than the previous films. His return also allows for further exploration of his feelings about his son’s actions.
It’s good to see Miranda back as Hermes and not recast. He was a standout in season 1, and given past recastings in the movie adaptations and his busy schedule, it’s a relief he’ll be in the next season.
