“Uncharted 2” has received an update that’s both promising yet uncertain due to Tom Holland’s busy schedule. The first “Uncharted” movie, released in 2022 and starring Holland among others, was a box office hit despite negative reviews, grossing over $407 million on a $120 million budget.
Producer Charles Roven said a script for the sequel is being worked on, but they’ll have to wait as Holland is set to work on Christopher Nolan’s next film and then “Spider-Man 4”. Holland’s career is booming, and with the first movie’s financial success and his role as an executive producer, there’s likely a strong desire for him to return for the sequel when his schedule allows. Wahlberg’s availability also matters for production.
What this means is that while it seems like a matter of when rather than if “Uncharted 2” will happen, Holland’s packed schedule is a key factor. If it’s a box office success, a third movie is likely to follow.
The franchise has potential to be a successful trilogy. The audience for the adaptation exists, and if the sequel ups the ante with story and action, it could outperform the first movie.
