Sony unveiled fresh footage from Kraven: The Hunter at the 2024 Comic Con Experience (CCXP), offering fans an exclusive glimpse of the action-packed film. Directed by J.C. Chandor, the movie starred Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the titular role of Kraven, alongside Russell Crowe, Ariana DeBose, and Fred Hechinger in supporting roles. The film was released on December 13, 2024.
During the CCXP presentation, Taylor-Johnson introduced a sequence where Kraven made a dramatic prison escape, followed by several exclusive clips. These included thrilling moments such as Kraven confronting other hunters, facing off against a boss and shooting a goon, a tense scene featuring Hechinger’s character playing music while Crowe’s character watched, and a heated father-son argument over a kidnapping. A standout action sequence showcased Kraven’s impressive combat skills.
The new footage suggested Kraven: The Hunter would deliver on high-energy action, continuing Sony’s trend of exploring Spider-Man-adjacent characters without including Spider-Man himself. While previous adaptations like Venom and Morbius had received mixed critical and commercial responses, Kraven appeared to offer a more intense portrayal of its lead character, which could have resonated with audiences.
However, the film’s decision to reframe Kraven, traditionally a villain, as an anti-hero seemed like a risky move. Whether the action-packed sequences could sustain the narrative and garner positive reviews would ultimately determine if the film could recoup its estimated $110-150 million budget.
