The upcoming Prime Video anthology show “Secret Level” is set to premiere on December 10 with 15 episodes, each focusing on different games like Unreal Tournament, Pac-Man, and more. Its official trailer has already been released, previewing diverse art styles and narratives.
However, early reviews have been mixed, with its Rotten Tomatoes score currently at 64% on the Tomatometer and an average rating of 6 out of 10 from just 11 reviews so far, creating an impression of a divisive show.
What this score means is that while some shows can thrive regardless of critic scores, “Secret Level” likely can’t afford lukewarm attention. Aiming to tap into nostalgia by featuring underrated games, it needs positive word-of-mouth to attract an audience. Critics have pointed out flaws in its format, stories, and likened it to an extended ad for games, which could hinder its ability to find viewership.
“Secret Level” is a unique project, given its connection to the “Love, Death, and Robots” team. That show had high scores and great audience reception, so this anthology series has potential. But with its current modest Rotten Tomatoes score, it’s concerning. It needs to improve its standing among critics as each episode will have different appeal, and positive press is crucial for its future success.
