Liam Neeson’s $222M ‘Non-Stop’ Leaving Netflix as New Thriller Arrives

by Barbara Miller

Liam Neeson is a prominent figure among today’s action stars. His role in the “Taken” trilogy, starting in 2008 and concluding in 2014, where he portrays a father on a desperate mission to rescue his kidnapped daughter, has made him widely known. The franchise was also adapted into a TV series in 2017.

Beyond “Taken”, Neeson has had significant roles in other action franchises. He played the villain Ra’s Al Ghul in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” trilogy. In 2023, he starred in “Absolution” as an aging gangster seeking redemption. Other recent works include “In the Land of Saints and Sinners” and “Retribution”.

“Non-Stop”, one of Neeson’s action films, is set to leave Netflix. The movie revolves around an air marshal who faces a life-threatening situation on a transatlantic flight when he’s informed that an offshore account demands $150 million and that someone on the plane will die every 20 minutes if the money isn’t delivered. The film, which also features Julianne Moore, Scoot McNairy, Michelle Dockery, Nate Parker, and Corey Stoll, was a box office success, grossing $222.8 million against a $50 million budget.

Netflix is planning to remove “Non-Stop” and “Cold Pursuit” on December 31. However, a new airport thriller, “Carry-On”, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and starring Taron Egerton, arrived on Netflix on December 13. The film follows a TSA officer who gets blackmailed on Christmas Eve.

Our view is that “Carry-On” could be a suitable replacement for “Non-Stop”. After December 31, only three Neeson films – “Run All Night”, “A Walk Among the Tombstones”, and “Made in Italy” – will remain on the streaming service. “Run All Night” has been popular on the platform recently. Since “Carry-On” is from the same director as “Non-Stop” and is set during the Holiday Season, it’s likely to attract viewers who liked the former.
