Fire Country showrunner Tia Napolitano has provided clarity regarding Jared Padalecki’s future with the show and whether his character Camden will return in season 3. The well-known actor, famous for his roles in “Gilmore Girls” and “Supernatural”, joined Fire Country in season 3 as Camden Casey. His character, who recognizes Bode’s talent, also clashes with him over a three-episode arc. This guest stint was supposedly an introduction for a potential spinoff led by Padalecki.
In an interview, Napolitano stated that Padalecki won’t be back for the remainder of season 3. However, she praised the veteran actor, saying he was a delight and that his character brought something special to the show. She also left the door open for his possible return in the future, stating, “We won’t see him this season, but the door’s definitely not closed. He was just a delight of a human, just a wonderful person and a wonderful actor. And that character was so fun. I thought he really brought something special to the show.”
The reason for Camden’s exit became clear in Fire Country season 3, episode 7. When he accidentally calls Bode by the name of his dead brother Patrick, who died in a fire a decade ago, it reveals Camden’s unresolved issues. Despite his tough exterior, he clearly hasn’t fully processed the loss. At the end of the episode, Camden tells Sharon that he’s returning home to SoCal for unfinished business. This sets the stage for the potential Padalecki-led spinoff, which was first proposed when CBS Studios extended its first-look deal with Padalecki earlier this year. The deal involves Padalecki in developing and producing new series for CBS Studios, which could include a Camden spinoff, though it has yet to be announced.
Padalecki’s Fire Country future is a valuable addition. Regardless of what happens with the spinoff, having him back in the cast would be beneficial. Thanks to his various roles, he has a connection with audiences, and he quickly developed chemistry with actors like Max Theriot and Diane Farr, enhancing the energy and urgency of the CBS drama. Fire Country season 3 is set to return to CBS on Friday, January 31 at 9 PM ET.
