The highly anticipated Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse has undergone a significant release update. Miles Morales’ animated escapades in the previous films have been a huge success for Sony, winning several awards and performing well at the box office. Both movies are considered among the top Spider-Man films ever, and the third installment was set to be an extraordinary multiverse event. Initially slated for a March 29th, 2024, release, it was indefinitely postponed and removed from Sony’s release schedule.
Sony has no intention of releasing Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse in 2025. The studio is reportedly “taking a lot of tender loving care” with concluding Miles Morales’ story. So far, there have been few definitive signs regarding its release date. In September, a report claimed it was unlikely to be released before 2027 and that much of it had been scrapped for creative reasons, though producer Christopher Miller and composer Daniel Pemberton refuted this.
What this release update means is that another year is likely for the release of the Spider-Verse finale. While the claim about large portions being scrapped was debunked, the report might still give an indication of when the movie could come out. Since key personnel have discredited the rumor that it would only be released by 2027 at the earliest, a 2026 release window for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse seems plausible. Additionally, Jharrel Jerome, who voices Miles G. Morales in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, told that he hasn’t recorded any lines for the threequel yet, which aligns with its delayed status.
Our take on this release update is that Sony should take its time with the movie. Both of the previous Spider-Verse films have revolutionized the animation medium and told remarkable Spider-Man stories outside of the comics. Given Sony’s challenges with its three Spider-Man-related movies in 2024, including Madame Web, Venom: The Last Dance, and Kraven the Hunter, it’s acceptable to give the studio ample time to ensure Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse wraps up Miles Morales’ animated story in the best possible way.
