Apple TV+ Renews ‘Bad Monkey’ for Season 2

by Barbara Miller

Apple TV+ has given the go-ahead for a second season of “Bad Monkey”. This darkly comedic mystery series was created by Bill Lawrence, the mastermind behind “Ted Lasso”. Based on Carl Hiaasen’s bestselling novel, it stars Vince Vaughn as Andrew Yancy, a former Miami detective who’s fallen from grace and now works as a restaurant inspector.

The first season, which consisted of 10 episodes, follows Andrew as he stumbles upon a strange murder case involving a host of eccentric Floridians and the “bad monkey” of the title. By the end of the season, his determination to uncover the truth leads him into an increasingly strange and dangerous world of crime and corruption.

Apple TV+ has confirmed “Bad Monkey” season 2 following the success of its initial season. The show became a hit after it introduced a blend of crime, comedy, and mystery, centered around a severed arm found on the shores of the Florida Keys. Vaughn received particular praise for his portrayal of the deeply flawed, stubborn, and sarcastic Andrew. Bill Lawrence shared his excitement about the renewal, stating, “I hope that people know that Carl Hiaasen is an idol of mine and an inspiration for me as a writer. To get to go on telling his story with Vince Vaughn and this great cast, at least the characters who are still alive, is very exciting. I’m very thankful to our partners at Apple TV+ and Warner Bros, as well as the entire team that helps bring this show to life.”

It showcases Apple TV+’s continued ability to develop original TV series with an established creative team and top-notch talent. Lawrence’s involvement and the quick renewal indicate confidence in the show’s long-term appeal, especially as the streaming platform expands its comedy offerings after the success of shows like “Ted Lasso” and “Shrinking”.

Nick Bythrow in a review, the Apple TV+ murder mystery “always keeps up the momentum of its carefully crafted story” and “its witty humor”. Season 2 presents an opportunity to further explore Hiaasen’s outlandish world, as it’s set to adapt his sequel “Razor Girl”. Andrew and his wild Floridian adventures offer plenty of scope for further character growth and new, absurd mysteries as he takes on a new antagonist in Lawrence’s TV adaptation.

“Bad Monkey” season 2 is exciting news for viewers. Vaughn’s portrayal of Andrew beautifully captures the charm of Hiaasen’s world, with his darkly comedic style meshing well with the quirky mystery. With Lawrence still in charge, season 2 has the potential to delve deeper into Andrew’s journey, introducing new twists and characters while maintaining the wit and charm that made the first season a success. The return of “Bad Monkey” promises another round of engaging, sun-soaked mysteries for viewers to enjoy alongside its talented cast.
