John Krasinski’s Jack Ryan Movie Filming Set to Begin in January 2025

The highly anticipated movie sequel to Prime Video’s hit series “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” is reportedly slated to start filming early next year. The four-season series, which draws from Clancy’s renowned Ryanverse novels, follows CIA analyst-turned-operative Jack Ryan, portrayed by John Krasinski, as he takes on international espionage and geopolitical threats. Praised for its modern take on the action-thriller franchise and Krasinski’s engaging performance, the show has become one of Prime Video’s most globally successful originals. There are also a Rainbow Six spinoff and a sequel movie in the works.

The Jack Ryan movie will commence filming in January 2025 in London, England. Directed by series alum Andrew Bernstein and written by season 4 writer Aaron Rabin, the film will feature a mix of familiar faces and new additions. Returning fan-favorites like Wendell Pierce, Michael Kelly will be joined by newcomer Sienna Miller.

What the filming window for Jack Ryan means is that Amazon MGM Studios is demonstrating its dedication to the Ryanverse. This will be the first Jack Ryan film since Chris Pine’s “Shadow Recruit” in 2014, closing a decade-long gap for the character in a feature-length project. The 11-year hiatus between films marks a long-awaited return of the character to the big screen, continuing on from the successful streaming series. However, it’s still unknown whether the film will premiere in theaters first or debut exclusively on the streaming platform.

The movie is expected to pick up after the explosive finale of Jack Ryan season 4, which really put the operatives’ skills and determination to the test. Krasinski will reprise his role as the titular character and venture back into the world of high-stakes adventures. Sienna Miller will play his M-I6 British counterpart, while series veterans Pierce (as James Greer) and Kelly (as Mike November) will return as Ryan’s closest allies. Although the plot details are being kept secret, the choice of London as the filming location and the return of key talent suggest a smooth continuation of the international espionage storyline that made the Amazon series so popular.

Given that the movie won’t have the same production timeline as a full season of the show, the January 2025 filming start could imply a relatively quick release. While a release in the same year seems unlikely, considering the studio hasn’t confirmed if it’ll be in theaters or on streaming, and given that the series’ seasons usually came out a little over a year after filming began, it’s possible the movie could debut in late Summer 2026. With only the Mike Flanagan-written Clayface movie scheduled for September, that might be an ideal release window for Jack Ryan.

Jack Ryan’s filming window presents an exciting opportunity to raise the franchise’s stakes and expand its global espionage scope. The January 2025 filming start points to a potential late 2026 release, though it remains unclear whether the movie will premiere in theaters or directly on Prime Video. Regardless, the Jack Ryan movie is shaping up to be a must-watch for fans of espionage thrillers and followers of Clancy’s lasting legacy. With a talented creative team and a track record of success, it’s poised to deliver the high-stakes, character-driven action that made the series such a hit.
