SONY Pictures has made an exciting announcement, revealing that a new trilogy will begin with “28 Years Later”. The sequel, titled “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple”, is slated for release in North America on January 26, 2026.
Before the “Temple of Bones” project was announced, SONY had already released the first trailer for “28 Years Later”. In the trailer, survivors of a viral disaster flee the city and establish a new gathering area. However, 28 years later, their seemingly peaceful lives are disrupted once again. There are more deadly virus mutations, and human nature and desires become increasingly distorted. The question of where mankind’s fate will lead hangs in the balance.
Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle, known for “Slumdog Millionaire”, is returning to direct the film. The star-studded cast includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, and Judy Comer. Additionally, Killian Murphy, who was in “28 Days Later”, will executive produce and take on an as-yet-undisclosed role.
It’s reported that “28 Years Later” and its sequel “Temple of Bones” are being filmed back-to-back. The first installment tells the story of a terrible plague that ravaged England for 28 years, turning humans into violent and rabid creatures, while only a few communities remained unaffected. The narrative centers around a young boy who is desperate to find a doctor to save his dying mother. But lurking in the forests, hills, and woods around them are the infected individuals.
“28 Years Later” is set to be released in North America on June 20, 2025, kicking off what promises to be an intense and captivating trilogy that will surely keep audiences on the edge of their seats as they follow the harrowing journey of the characters in a world fraught with danger and uncertainty.
