In the much-anticipated “Spider-Man 4”, there’s an interesting development as Anya Taylor-Joy is reportedly in talks to take on a role. Specifically, she’s being considered for the part of Black Cat. Producer Amy Pascal commented on the situation, saying, “Anya is great, we’re not there yet. There are a lot of good female characters in Spider-Man’s world, and I can’t talk about all of them right now.”
The character in question, Felicia “Black Cat” Hardy, has a rich backstory in the Marvel Comics. She made her first appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #194. After enduring a severe injury, she took it upon herself to learn numerous fighting and combat skills. She then chose to follow her father’s path and became a thief, eventually joining the superhero group The League of Defenders. Felicity Jones previously portrayed this character in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Previously, news had spread that Zendaya’s role in “Spider-Man 4” would be scaled back due to scheduling conflicts, to the point where it might be just a cameo. This led to the need for a new female lead in the film. While Anya Taylor-Joy is in discussions to join the project, it remains uncertain which role she’ll actually play. Many fans online nominated her for the role of Gwen Stacy. However, considering the established storyline of the Dutch version of Spider-Man, it’s unlikely that Gwen, who was Peter Parker’s high school girlfriend, will show up.
Moreover, there’s some information known about the production side of “Spider-Man 4”. It will be directed by Destin Creaton, who is also known for directing “Journey to the West”. As for the lead actor Tom Holland, he’s set to begin working on the production in the summer of 2025. Fans are surely eager to see how all these elements come together as the film continues to take shape in the months ahead.
