Renowned actress Amy Adams has a new milestone on the horizon as her 2024 horror-comedy movie, “Nightbitch”, is set for its streaming debut. Adams’ acting journey began with a significant role in Steven Spielberg’s 2002 film “Catch Me If You Can”, where she played Brenda Strong, a naive hospital nurse who captured the heart of Frank Abagnale Jr. (Leonardo DiCaprio), though their relationship was fated to end. She then garnered more acclaim and her first Academy Award nomination for her work in the 2005 comedy-drama “Junebug”. In 2007’s “Enchanted”, she truly established herself as a leading actor with her portrayal of Giselle.
Over the years, Adams continued to shine in a diverse range of projects. In Denis Villeneuve’s science-fiction drama “Arrival”, and through roles like Amelia Earhart in “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian”, Lois Lane in the DC Extended Universe, and Sister James in “Doubt”, she demonstrated her versatility across different genres. She also made an impact on prestige television with her performance as Camille Preaker in HBO’s adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s “Sharp Objects”.
Now, “Nightbitch” is making waves. In this horror-comedy, Adams portrays a stay-at-home mother whose life takes a wild turn when she starts transforming into a dog at night. The movie’s reviews have been somewhat mixed. It currently holds a 59% Tomatometer score and a 65% Popcornmeter score on review aggregator sites. While several critics had qualms about various aspects of the film, the majority commended Adams’ performance, which was recognized with a Golden Globe Award nomination. She’s up against Cynthia Erivo, Demi Moore, Karla Sofía Gascón, Mikey Madison, and Zendaya for the award.
“Nightbitch” will be available to stream on Hulu starting December 27. This streaming premiere comes less than a month after the movie first hit theaters on December 6. The timing is significant as it offers viewers a chance to watch Adams’ performance in “Nightbitch” before the Golden Globe Awards ceremony on January 5 and before the Academy Award nominations are revealed on January 17.
“Nightbitch’s” streaming release can boost the movie’s exposure before the major awards ceremonies. While it would have been nice to see a more extensive and less limited theatrical run for the film, the upcoming streaming availability is a welcome development. Given Adams’ fame, one would expect the movie to have drawn more attention initially. However, with its streaming debut on Hulu, there’s hope that more people will watch it and that it will generate more buzz, especially considering Adams’ potential to win a Golden Globe and receive an Academy Award nomination for her work in “Nightbitch”.
