Hollywood’s prominent horror promoters, Jason Bullen and James Wan, are joining forces to produce a reboot of the classic “The Mummy”. This new take on the iconic story will be written and directed by Lee Cronin, who is known for his work on “Rise of Evil Dead”.
Although the specific plot details haven’t been disclosed yet, Cronin has teased that this movie will be a departure from previous “The Mummy” films. He stated, “This movie is unlike any Mummy movie you’ve seen before. I’m digging deep into the ground looking for something very old and very scary.”
Universal Pictures has a long history with mummies as a subject matter. Back in the 1930s, they released “The Mummy” starring Boris Karloff and Zita John. Then, in the late ’90s, the studio turned it into a successful blockbuster series with Brandon Fisher and Rachel Weisz in the lead roles. In 2017, there was another reboot featuring Tom Cruise and Sofia Podola.
Fans can mark their calendars as Lee Cronin’s reboot of “The Mummy” is set to hit theaters in North America on April 17, 2026. It’s sure to bring a fresh and potentially terrifying perspective to this well-known horror concept, building on the legacy of the previous iterations while aiming to offer something new and spine-chilling for audiences.
