Renowned filmmaker Mamoru Hosoda’s new animated film, “Scarlet of Endless Hope”, has unveiled its first visual image. In the picture, a blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl is seen donning a knight suit and looking resolutely into the distance. The ocean depicted above her suggests that this will be a fantasy-filled new story.
Written by Hosoda himself, the film will revolve around Scarlet, a powerful princess with the ability to travel through time. Hosoda has stated that the lead character Scarlett will face the most challenging test among all his films. Moreover, the movie will center on a theme that “anyone can feel the feelings”, delving deeply into life and death issues.
Hosoda also mentioned that, similar to his previous work “The Princess of the Stars”, this film will combine hand-drawn animation and CG production. It aims to present a production method that is distinct from traditional celluloid animation as well as from Hollywood CG painting, with the intention of showcasing a novel form of animation.
It has been reported that the animated film “Scarlet of Endless Hope” is slated for release in Japan during the winter of 2025, with plans for global distribution in the works. Fans of Hosoda’s unique storytelling and animation style can look forward to this new offering that promises to explore profound themes while presenting a fresh visual aesthetic.
