The first public stills of the film “Distant Mountain Light Shadow” have been released, featuring the talents of Hirose Suzu and Fumi Nikaido. In these stills, the two actors share the frame, and their Showa-era style clothing vividly conveys a strong sense of the period.
This film is based on the first book published by Nobel laureate Kazuo Ishiguro back in 1982. The story centers around Niki (played by Hirose Suzu), who relocates to London with her English father and then returns to her mother Etsuko’s hometown in Japan. During their time together, Etsuko starts to share with Niki a recent dream she had. In the dream, there’s a woman named Sachiko (played by Fumi Nikaido) and her young daughter, whom Etsuko met while living in Nagasaki.
Directed by Kei Ishikawa, known for “The Man”, “Distant Mountain Light Shadow” is slated for release in Japan during the summer of 2025. Fans of Ishiguro’s work and those intrigued by the period setting and the performances of Hirose and Nikaido can look forward to this upcoming cinematic offering.
