Charlie Cox, widely lauded for his portrayal of Matt Murdock/Daredevil in Netflix’s “Daredevil” series that was unexpectedly axed after season 3, has been making a comeback in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He has reprised the role in projects like “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law”, “Echo”, and is set to star in the much-anticipated “Daredevil: Born Again” series slated for release on Disney+ in 2025.
Now, an Instagram post by DFRNT Health & Fitness has suggested that Cox is training for an Avengers movie. This could potentially mean that he’ll appear as Daredevil in either “Avengers: Doomsday” or “Avengers: Secret Wars”. There’s also a possibility that he’s training for a potential second season of “Daredevil: Born Again”, though neither his involvement in the Avengers movies nor a second season of “Daredevil: Born Again” has been officially confirmed yet.
What this could imply for the MCU is quite significant. If Cox is indeed set to be part of “Avengers: Doomsday” or “Avengers: Secret Wars”, Daredevil might have a prominent role and could even join the Avengers’ roster in “Doomsday”. This would mark Cox’s most substantial role in an MCU movie so far, as aside from a brief appearance helping Peter Parker (Tom Holland) with a legal matter in “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, he has mainly been associated with MCU television projects.
Given that the plots of “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars” are deeply intertwined with the multiverse concept, it’s possible that Cox will portray a different iteration of Daredevil and Murdock than what we’ve seen in the MCU previously. He might even take on a more villainous version of the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen. This would tie in with the already confirmed and surprising casting of Robert Downey Jr. as the villainous Doctor Doom instead of the heroic Tony Stark/Iron Man in these movies.
Charlie Cox’s potential next MCU project is a welcome development. After the earlier uncertainty following the cancellation of the Netflix series, it’s great to see Cox continue to bring the character to life in multiple projects. While getting his own series again with “Daredevil: Born Again” is exciting, having a key role in an Avengers movie is equally thrilling. If Daredevil is set to appear next in “Doomsday”, it’ll be fascinating to see how the first season of “Daredevil: Born Again” concludes, as the finale could potentially set up his next appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
