Natasha Rothwell, who played Belinda in The White Lotus season 1 as the spa manager at the Maui location of The White Lotus, has shared why her character is making a comeback in season 3. Despite the series typically featuring a mostly new cast each season, Belinda will be reappearing when the show returns on February 16, 2025. The season 3 cast also includes Jason Isaacs, Michelle Monaghan, Walton Goggins, and Carrie Coon.
In an interview, Rothwell disclosed that Belinda is still employed by The White Lotus and is now in Thailand on an exchange program. She’s there to learn about the wellness programs that the Thailand location offers. So, in contrast to her role as a hotel employee in season 1, Belinda will be a guest in season 3. Here’s what she had to say:
“She’s still working at the White Lotus, and she’s in Thailand doing sort of an exchange program to learn more about the wellness programs that the Thailand White Lotus offers. She’s going to be a guest for the first time, even though she’s taking classes and it’s a work trip. She’s staying at the hotel, which is something that she hasn’t done before, and so we get to see her really dip her toe in the other side of life of the upstairs/downstairs of White Lotus.
She’s like, ‘Oh, someone’s going to come in and clean my room and I don’t know them?’ She gets a firsthand look at some of the things that I think went unnoticed by her [in] season 1. It’s a really cool exploration of status and her journey and reconciling the fact that her dreams of owning the spa never came to fruition, so what do you do? ‘I’m going to pick myself up and learn something new,’ and still grow in her own way.”
What Rothwell’s comments signify for The White Lotus season 3 is that Belinda is set to be a major character. As the only cast member returning from the previous two seasons, she’s likely to have a much more significant role than in season 1. In the first season, Belinda frequently shared the screen with Jennifer Coolidge’s Tanya. Tanya felt an instant connection with Belinda and even offered to invest in her dream of opening her own spa. However, at the end of season 1, Tanya abruptly backed out of the deal, shattering Belinda’s hopes.
Rothwell’s recent remarks show that Belinda is still recovering from that disappointment. Her trip to Thailand will be her first professional venture since Tanya’s decision not to invest. Given that she might be in a somewhat vulnerable state, it could lead to some fascinating interactions with other characters in season 3.
Belinda’s role in The White Lotus season 3 will be exciting to see her as a guest. Rothwell’s comments highlight that the events of season 1 still have a big impact on Belinda, linking the upcoming season to the show’s past. This indicates that Belinda will be on a journey of self-discovery in season 3. Hopefully, she’ll have a more positive outcome this time compared to what happened in season 1.
