Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ series Vision (title yet to be confirmed) will see the return of several familiar faces, including some key players from the MCU’s early days. The series, set to launch in 2026, will follow the android Vision (Paul Bettany) after his departure in WandaVision. However, fans can expect the return of a lesser-known but crucial character: Raza Hamidmi al-Wazar, the leader of the Ten Rings from the original Iron Man film.
Raza, portrayed by Faran Tahir, first appeared in Iron Man (2008) as the warlord who, along with the Ten Rings, kidnaps Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) in Afghanistan. The group initially planned to kill Stark, but instead held him captive to use his weapons expertise. Stark’s eventual escape and the creation of the first Iron Man suit marked the turning point of the MCU. Despite being seemingly killed by Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges), Raza’s character was not shown dying onscreen, leaving room for his return.
Tahir’s return to the MCU as Raza comes as a surprise, especially considering the absence of other major Iron Man villains such as Obadiah Stane, Ivan Vanko (Mickey Rourke), or Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce). Raza’s return raises questions about his continued goals, especially given his last words in Iron Man about wanting to harness Iron Man’s technology. Will he now seek revenge or pursue new motives in the Vision series?
Tahir, an actor of Pakistani descent, brings a unique perspective to the role of Raza. His background in acting, with credits spanning television, film, and theater, is noteworthy. He is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Captain Robau in Star Trek (2009), and his stage performance as Othello in Washington D.C.’s Shakespeare Theatre Company in 2016. Tahir’s family has deep artistic roots, with his father, Naeem Tahir, a prominent actor, and his mother, Yasmeen Tahir, a radio host.
The inclusion of Raza in Vision signals Marvel’s continued exploration of its early storylines while also reimagining characters for the modern MCU. The Vision series, which will center on the titular android’s adventures post-WandaVision, is set to bring new developments to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe.
As Vision prepares for its 2026 release on Disney+, fans can look forward to the re-emergence of familiar faces and the potential for a deeper dive into the early days of the MCU. The question remains: How will Raza’s return impact the android’s journey, and what new alliances or conflicts will emerge as a result?
