Zach Bryan has shifted his focus from music to filmmaking, unveiling a new project titled Motorbreath, with the help of Academy Award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey.
On Wednesday, January 15, Bryan shared a pair of intriguing posts on Instagram. The first featured a snippet of a new track titled “Birdie,” an acoustic, intimate recording where Bryan references the likes of Elliott Smith in the lyrics. Although the post offered no further details, fans quickly became intrigued by the evocative tone of the preview.
The second post, however, provided a deeper look into Bryan’s next venture, as McConaughey joined the announcement to introduce the upcoming film. McConaughey, who appeared in Bryan’s 2024 “Nine Ball” music video, revealed the project’s premise: Motorbreath is a story about a boy from Oklahoma who joins the Navy and, with a passion for writing, eventually connects with a broad audience. The film follows a group of close-knit friends on a two-week motorcycle journey across America, while recording one final major label album. McConaughey’s description ended with a tease of the film’s title, Motorbreath.
While Bryan has provided a glimpse into the project, specifics, such as the release date, have not yet been revealed. The film’s title echoes a song of the same name that Bryan previewed on social media in November.
Bryan’s recent musical accomplishments include the release of The Great American Bar Scene in July, his third album under Warner Records. The album, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, followed his chart-topping self-titled album from the previous year. In January, Bryan took to social media to defend his friends from the “harassment” they faced following his public breakup with Brianna LaPaglia (aka Brianna Chickenfry) in October.
