Directed by Jon M. Chu (it was misspelled as David Chu in the original), “Wicked” presents a compelling narrative. Starring Cynthia Erivo as the green – skinned and misunderstood Elphaba and Ariana Grande as the glamorous and ambitious Glinda, the story begins as the two meet at Shiz University (referred to as the University of West in the original, likely a misnomer). Despite their starkly different personalities, they forge a deep friendship. However, their relationship takes a dramatic turn when they come across the Wizard of Oz. This encounter leads their friendship to a crossroads, and the two characters are set on diverging paths, facing contrasting fates. The film’s success not only lies in its commercial performance but also in its ability to engage audiences with its well – crafted story and the star – power of its lead actors.
