Apple TV+ has revealed the global premiere date for Carême, a captivating historical drama series set to showcase the life of Antonin Carême, widely regarded as the first celebrity chef. The biopic will debut on Wednesday, April 30, exclusively on Apple TV+ and its digital channels, including Apple TV+ on Prime Video Channels. The series will roll out with two episodes, followed by weekly releases on Wednesdays, with the final episode airing on June 11.
The drama stars César Award-winning actor Benjamin Voisin (Lost Illusions, Summer of 85, The Mad Women’s Ball) in the lead role of Carême. The series chronicles the remarkable rise of the French chef, who ascended from a humble background in Paris to become one of the most renowned figures in the culinary world during Napoleon’s reign.
Carême delves into the chef’s internal and external battles, as his talents and lofty ambitions attract the attention of powerful French politicians who manipulate him as a spy. Amidst his quest for fame, wealth, and personal fulfillment, Carême must navigate the complexities of loyalty, ambition, and revenge, all while grappling with the price of success.
The eight-episode French-language series also features César Award nominees Jérémie Renier (My Way, Saint Laurent) and Lyna Khoudri (Papicha, November), alongside Alice Da Luz (Hanami, And the Party Goes On). Acclaimed filmmaker Martin Bourboulon (Les Trois Mousquetaires: D’Artagnan, Eiffel) directs the series, which was filmed on location in Paris and surrounding areas.
Carême is inspired by the book Cooking for Kings: The Life of Antonin Carême, the First Celebrity Chef by historian and actor Ian Kelly (The King’s Man), who also serves as a creator alongside Davide Serino (The Bad Guy, M. Son of the Century, Esterno notte). Executive producers include Vanessa van Zuylen of VVZ Production and Dominique Farrugia of Banijay’s Shine Fiction for Apple TV+.
