by Barbara

Magenta Light Studios, the distributor behind Strange Darling, has announced its acquisition of the domestic rights to the action-packed thriller Deep Water from Arclight Films. The film is set to make a wide theatrical debut later this year.

Directed by Renny Harlin, known for Deep Blue Sea, Deep Water marks his return to the high-stakes world of shark-infested waters. The screenplay, penned by John Kim (Bait) and Pete Bridges, follows an eclectic group of international passengers who find themselves stranded in shark-infested waters after their plane makes an emergency landing. As the wreckage sinks, the terrified passengers must set aside their differences and work together to survive the ensuing chaos.

Harlin, reflecting on the project, shared his passion for disaster films, stating that Deep Water embodies the spirit of the ’70s disaster movies he loved growing up. He continued, “Spectacular action and unforgettable characters who didn’t leave a dry eye in the movie theater.”

Additionally, Harlin acknowledged the support of Yari and the Magenta Light team, praising their dedication to the film since its inception. “I’m proud to have a wide theatrical release for a movie that deserves to be seen and heard on the biggest possible number of screens across the country,” he concluded.

Yari, a renowned producer with credits including Crash, The Illusionist, and Yellowstone, founded Magenta Light Studios with a vision to distribute high-quality independent films to the theatrical marketplace. Strange Darling was the studio’s first acquisition, and Deep Water marks another significant step in its growing portfolio.
