Netflix has released the highly anticipated teaser for its upcoming series When Life Gives You Tangerines, set to premiere on March 7. The drama stars popular South Korean actors Park Bo-gum and IU, who take on the roles of childhood friends navigating love, dreams, and life’s unpredictable twists.
Set against the backdrop of 1950s Jeju Island, the series follows Ae-sun (IU), a bold and independent young woman, and Gwan-sik (Park Bo-gum), a resilient and determined man. Described as a “remarkable rebel” and “unyielding iron,” the two embark on a journey spanning four vibrant seasons, each filled with personal growth, emotional struggles, and profound relationships.
In the one-minute teaser, fans are given a glimpse into the bond between Gwan-sik and Ae-sun as they grow up together on the scenic island. However, as they mature, Ae-sun rejects the idea of marrying Gwan-sik, despite their deep friendship. Gwan-sik, ever supportive, encourages Ae-sun to pursue her dreams, even telling her, “I think you’ll be a famous poet.” But the teaser takes an emotional turn as Gwan-sik unexpectedly leaves, leaving Ae-sun visibly shaken.
The teaser has already sparked excitement among fans, with many eagerly awaiting the onscreen pairing of Park Bo-gum and IU. One fan expressed their anticipation, saying, “Can’t wait to see Park Bo-gum and IU in one frame,” while another wrote, “I’m excited to watch.”
Directed by Kim Won-suk, known for his work on Misaeng: Incomplete Life and My Mister, and written by Lim Sang-choon, the writer behind hits like When the Camellia Blooms and Fight for My Way, When Life Gives You Tangerines promises to captivate viewers with its emotionally charged storyline.
IU, who has previously starred in The Producers (2015), Hotel del Luna (2019), Broker (2022), and Dream (2023), has also been enjoying a successful music career. Her world tour “H.E.R.” in 2024 brought her to various countries, including the Philippines.
Park Bo-gum, a household name for his roles in Reply 1988 (2015), Love in the Moonlight (2016), Encounter (2018), and Record of Youth (2020), also recently featured in films such as Seo Bok (2021) and Wonderland (2024). Beyond acting, Bo-gum has ventured into music, releasing his album Blue Bird in Japan in 2020. In January 2023, he signed an exclusive contract with The Black Label, a subsidiary of YG Entertainment.
With its star-studded cast, emotional depth, and nostalgic setting, When Life Gives You Tangerines is shaping up to be one of Netflix’s most anticipated releases of 2025.
