Director Adam Green, known for his work on the Hatchet franchise, Digging Up the Marrow, and the chilling survival film Frozen (2010), is set to helm his first feature in eight years. His upcoming project, The Ascent, is described as a survival thriller with a deadly twist—sharks.
The film follows a group of friends who travel to Europe for an extravagant and daring destination wedding. However, what begins as a fun-filled adventure soon escalates into a terrifying fight for survival when they find themselves stranded above shark-infested waters, facing an imminent battle for their lives.
The Ascent marks the first major project from Simple House Films, a production banner run by Addam Bramich, Ryan Hamilton, and Volodymyr Artemenko. The film is part of the company’s new international sales slate.
In addition to The Ascent, Simple House Films is also working on another survival thriller titled Zipline, though plot details remain under wraps. The film stars Ioan Gruffudd (Bad Boys: Ride or Die), Ross Butler (Shazam!), Holland Roden (Teen Wolf), and Sonia Ammar (The Equalizer 3).
The Ascent is a significant return for Green, who has not directed a feature since 2017’s Victor Crowley, the latest installment in his Hatchet franchise. Green has been a mainstay in the horror community since 2006 when he introduced the iconic Victor Crowley character in the original Hatchet, a nod to old-school slasher films that helped launch a successful franchise. He is also known for creating the horror sitcom Holliston, which aired from 2012 to 2013.
