Owen Wilson and Alan Ritchson are set to headline the upcoming action-thriller Runner. Directed by Scott Waugh, best known for his work on Need for Speed and Expendables 4, the film promises to deliver a high-octane, suspenseful narrative.
Runner, written by Tommy White and Miles Hubley, follows Hank Malone (played by Ritchson), a skilled high-end courier tasked with a seemingly straightforward mission: delivering an organ to save the life of a seven-year-old girl in urgent need of a transplant. However, things take a dangerous turn when a notorious crime syndicate leader sets his sights on the organ, turning the delivery into a deadly race against time.
Wilson joins the cast as Ben, a medical courier whom Ritchson’s character must protect during the mission. The film is slated to begin shooting in Australia next month. Waugh expressed his excitement over the project, calling the script a “page-turner” and hinting at the unexpected twists the audience can anticipate.
“This pairing is something I believe audiences have been hungry for, and we strive to achieve the unexpected from the page-turner script that Miles and Tommy delivered,” Waugh said in a statement.
For Ritchson, Runner follows his recent involvement in the Netflix film War Machine, and he is currently filming The Man with the Bag, a project by director Adam Shankman, in which he stars alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Wilson, meanwhile, was last seen in the 2023 Haunted Mansion remake and will soon star in the upcoming sports comedy TV series Rambler & the Birdie Machine.
Filming for Runner is set to begin next month, with the action-packed drama promising to be a thrilling addition to both stars’ diverse portfolios.
