Focus Features has dropped an intense new trailer for Last Breath, a gripping survival thriller starring Woody Harrelson, Simu Liu, and Finn Cole. The film, set against the perilous backdrop of the deep sea, is based on a true story of courage, teamwork, and resilience.
Directed by Alex Parkinson, Last Breath follows the harrowing real-life account of a team of deep-sea divers trapped in a race against time to save one of their own. The story centers on seasoned divers working hundreds of feet below the surface of the North Sea when a catastrophic accident leaves one diver stranded, cut off from life-saving oxygen and communication. The team must work together to pull off the impossible and rescue their comrade from certain death.
In September 2012, a routine diving mission turned into a fight for survival when a computer malfunction caused the divers’ vessel to drift away, severing the umbilical cable that connected diver Chris Lemons (played by Finn Cole) to his oxygen supply, electricity, and communications. With precious minutes ticking away and the clock running out on Lemons’ oxygen reserves, fellow divers Dave Yuasa (Simu Liu) and Duncan Allcock (Woody Harrelson) embarked on a desperate mission to bring him back to the surface.
The story behind Last Breath was first captured in the 2019 British documentary directed by Parkinson and Richard da Costa, which utilized archival footage, audio recordings, and interviews to recount the tense moments of the near-fatal ordeal. The documentary’s success led to a partnership with producers Stewart le Maréchal and Al Morrow, who worked with the Brooks family—Paul and David Brooks—to bring the story to the big screen as a narrative feature.
Last Breath is slated for release in theaters on February 28, 2025, promising to deliver an edge-of-your-seat experience with its thrilling depiction of human endurance in the face of overwhelming odds.
