New Cast Members Join Live-Action ‘Masters of the Universe’ Movie

The upcoming live-action Masters of the Universe film has expanded its cast, adding notable stars to the highly anticipated project. Directed by Travis Knight, the movie, a collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel, brings the iconic 1980s cartoon series and toy line to life with a star-studded ensemble.

He-Man will be portrayed by Nicholas Galitzine, and now, two more significant roles have been filled. Morena Baccarin, acclaimed for her roles in Deadpool and Firefly, has been cast as The Sorceress, while Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson will play Malcolm/Fisto, a character who evolves from villain to hero.

Baccarin, whose career includes major roles in Stargate SG-1, Homeland, Gotham, and The Flash, will bring depth to the mystical character of The Sorceress. Meanwhile, Jóhannesson, known for his performances in Game of Thrones, Vikings: Valhalla, and Succession, is set to portray the complex character of Fisto, who shifts allegiances throughout the story. His notable film credits include Atomic Blonde (2017) and Captain America: Brave New World (2025).

In addition to these newcomers, Masters of the Universe boasts an impressive ensemble cast featuring Camila Mendes as Teela, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-at-Arms, Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Hafthor Bjornsson as Goat Man, and Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops.

Plot details for the film remain tightly under wraps, but the screenplay has been penned by Chris Butler, with earlier drafts contributed by David Callaham, Aaron Nee, and Adam Nee. The film’s director, Travis Knight, is known for his work on Kubo and the Two Strings (2016) and Bumblebee (2018), with his upcoming project, Wildwood (2025), adding to his growing portfolio.

Masters of the Universe is slated for release on June 5, 2026. Fans of the franchise are eagerly awaiting a new take on the classic tale, featuring a fresh vision alongside its beloved characters.
