The Bible has long served as a source of inspiration for filmmakers, especially when it comes to horror. The upcoming indie thriller Unholy Song taps into this tradition, drawing directly from the Miracle of the Gadarene Swine—a powerful exorcism performed by Jesus Christ, as recounted in the New Testament.
In Unholy Song, a landlord and his two new tenants unknowingly unleash an evil witch from a cursed tape. As the malevolent spirit begins to haunt their lives, the trio is forced to confront their deepest fears and skepticism. Their only hope for survival is to perform an exorcism that mirrors the biblical event, sending the evil entity back into the bones of the swine and trapping it under the original spell.
Written and directed by Arthur G. Night, this low-budget horror film will be released in select theaters on February 28. The film features performances by Jessica K. Chaves, Christopher Orozco, Quint Gabriel, Sean Gestl, and Eric Parkinson.
In a competitive industry dominated by major studio releases with budgets of $50 million or more, Parkinson acknowledges the challenge indie films face. “It’s hard for a low-budget indie thriller to compete with the big studio blockbusters,” he says. “But we believe Unholy Song stands out, and we’ve already seen a strong, positive response from audiences.”
