A24 is preparing to release its latest dark comedy, Death of a Unicorn, in theaters on March 28, 2025. The film, which has garnered attention for its unique premise and stellar cast, has officially received an R rating from the Motion Picture Association (MPA). The rating cites “strong violent content, gore, language, and some drug use” as the reasons for its classification.
The film stars Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd, who play a father and daughter caught in a bizarre and violent series of events. In Death of a Unicorn, the duo accidentally strikes and kills a unicorn while on their way to a weekend retreat. Their journey takes a darker turn when they discover that the creature holds miraculous curative properties, prompting Rudd’s character’s billionaire boss, played by Richard E. Grant, to attempt to exploit the creature’s abilities.
Produced by Ari Aster, known for Beau Is Afraid and Midsommar, the film features music by the legendary John Carpenter, along with Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies. Horror fans will undoubtedly be intrigued by Carpenter’s involvement, which adds an extra layer of suspense and intensity to the film.
Directed by Alex Scharfman (Resurrection, Lyle), Death of a Unicorn features a talented ensemble cast that includes Téa Leoni (Jurassic Park III, Spanglish), Will Poulter (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3), Anthony Carrigan (Bill & Ted Face the Music, Barry), Sunita Mani (Servant, Glow), Jessica Hynes (Shaun of the Dead, Paddington 2), and Stephen Park (Asteroid City).
Fans can catch a glimpse of the film with the official trailer, which was released earlier, and look forward to the film’s theatrical debut this March.
