Italian director Silvio Soldini’s latest film, The Tasters, which delves into the harrowing true story of the women conscripted to be Adolf Hitler’s food tasters, is making waves at the European Film Market, securing multiple distribution deals across various territories.
The German-language drama, starring Germany’s Elisa Schlott (Das Boot TV series), Max Riemelt (Sleeping Dog), and Alma Hasun (Corsage), has garnered significant attention and sales, with Vision Distribution closing deals in dozens of territories. The film will also have its world premiere next month at Italy’s Bari International Festival.
Based on Rosella Postorino’s bestselling novel, At the Wolf’s Table, the film has been acquired by CDI for most Latin American markets and Pandora for Brazil. Additionally, the drama has secured distribution in Spain (Mirror Audiovisual), Portugal (Films4you), Bulgaria (Beta Films), Israel (New Cinema), and Greece (Rosebud).
Produced by Lumière & Co. in collaboration with Belgium’s Tarantula and Switzerland’s Tellfilm and IDM Film Commission, The Tasters is noted for its unique production. Vision Distribution managing director Massimo Proietti emphasized the film’s distinctive international appeal, highlighting that it is “a film produced in Italy and made by an Italian director in German language with an international cast,” a combination that makes it “rare and interesting.” The film will also be dubbed into Italian for its theatrical release in Italy, where it will be distributed by Vision starting in March.
Proietti added that Vision Distribution’s approach is focused on developing projects with international appeal from the outset.
At the EFM, Vision is also promoting several other titles, including Isabel Coixet’s Tre Ciotole, starring Alba Rohrwacher and Elio Germano; the seductive noir The Eyes of Others, starring Jasmine Trinca and Filippo Timi, directed by Andrea De Sica (Baby); and Nicolangelo Gelormini’s Gioia, a true story about a tumultuous teacher-student love affair, featuring Valeria Golino and Saul Nanni (Love & Gelato). Other notable films in the Vision lineup include Ferzan Özpetek’s Diamonds, a female-centric ensemble film and one of Italy’s key titles for 2025, and the hit Italian comedy I Am the End of the World.
