Angel Studios, the distributor behind the successful Sound of Freedom, has released a captivating new trailer for The King of Kings, an animated feature that brings to life the story of Jesus Christ. Based on Charles Dickens’ book The Life of Our Lord, the film promises to take audiences on a profound journey through the life and teachings of Christ.
The film stars Oscar Isaac as the voice of Jesus, with a stellar supporting cast including Kenneth Branagh as Charles Dickens, Uma Thurman as Mrs. Dickens, Mark Hamill as Herod, Pierce Brosnan as Pontius Pilate, Roman Griffin Davis as Walter Dickens, Forest Whitaker as Peter, and Ben Kingsley as the High Priest Caiaphas.
The official logline for the film describes it as a heartwarming tale: “A father tells his son the greatest story ever told, and what begins as a bedtime tale becomes a life-changing journey. Through vivid imagination, the boy walks alongside Jesus, witnessing His miracles, facing His trials, and understanding His ultimate sacrifice. The King of Kings invites us to rediscover the enduring power of hope, love, and redemption through the eyes of a child.”
Directed by first-time filmmaker Seong-ho Jang, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Rob Edwards, the movie is produced by Jang and cinematographer Woo-hyung Kim, with Dennis Cho serving as executive producer. South Korea’s Mofac Animation is responsible for the animation.
The King of Kings is set to hit theaters on April 11, 2025. Following the success of Sound of Freedom, which grossed $40 million within its first six days of release in 2023, Angel Studios aims to continue its strong presence in the faith-based film market.
Paul Dergarabedian, senior analyst at Comscore, commented on the growing demand for faith-based films, stating, “The strong response to faith-based films reflects a demand by an underserved audience who are hungry for entertainment that reflects their values and beliefs. Such content can indeed find an enthusiastic audience, generate solid box office, and impressive profits for their investors.”
The trailer for The King of Kings is now available for viewing.
