‘O’Dessa‘ Trailer Unveiled: A Dystopian Rock Opera Starring Sadie Sink

by Barbara

The highly anticipated first trailer for O’Dessa, Geremy Jasper’s post-apocalyptic rock opera, has been unveiled, sparking considerable buzz among fans of both musical cinema and dystopian tales. Early reactions have already begun drawing comparisons to iconic films like Mad Max, Divergent, The Hunger Games, and Snowpiercer, while some enthusiasts are even invoking the cult classic 1980s animated film Rock and Rule as a reference point for its audacious vision.

The film stars Sadie Sink, best known for her breakout role in Stranger Things, as the titular character, O’Dessa. In the film, O’Dessa embarks on an epic quest to recover a magical family heirloom after a devastating tragedy strikes her farm. Sink, who got her start in musical theater, revealed that stepping into the role of a vocal heroine was a natural fit. “That’s kind of how I got into all of this,” she explained. “I haven’t really touched on that since I was younger, so getting back into it, I definitely leaned on a lot of my closest friends who are in the music industry to help me come out of my shell.”

Sink expressed her enthusiasm for the project, noting that O’Dessa blends various elements from her career. “I’m excited for everyone to see it because it’s a combination of basically everything that I’ve done in my career so far, and it’ll be exciting to share it.”

The official synopsis of the film reads: Set in a dystopian future, O’Dessa follows the journey of a young farm girl on a mission to recover a treasured family heirloom. Her quest leads her to a strange and perilous city where she encounters her true love. In order to save him, she must risk everything and use the power of destiny and song in ways she never imagined.

The film also features a star-studded cast, including Kelvin Harrison Jr. (Elvis, It Comes at Night) as Euri Dervish, Murray Bartlett (White Lotus), Regina Hall (Scary Movie), Mark Boone Junior (Sons of Anarchy, Batman Begins), Marinko Prga, and musician Pokey LaFarge.

Directed by former music video and commercial director Geremy Jasper, O’Dessa marks his second feature film following the success of his 2017 award-winning debut Patti Cake$. Jasper not only directed but also wrote the script and composed all 16 original songs featured in the film, promising a truly unique cinematic experience.
