Neon has officially released the first trailer and poster for The Actor, a gripping crime mystery film set to hit theaters on March 14, 2025. Starring André Holland and Gemma Chan, the film is adapted from Donald E. Westlake’s 2010 novel Memory.
The movie follows Paul Cole (Holland), who finds himself stranded in an unfamiliar small town with no recollection of his past or how he arrived there. As he navigates the mystery of his own identity, Cole begins to form a connection with Edna (Chan), a local costume designer. The film’s official synopsis teases that Cole’s memories slowly resurface as he tries to piece together his past, but the more he uncovers, the more uncertain his reality becomes. Time becomes elusive, appearances deceive, and the line between truth and illusion blurs as Cole struggles to determine which version of himself is genuine.
The trailer offers a glimpse into this unsettling journey as Cole, played by Holland, tries to reclaim his identity in a town shrouded in secrecy. His relationship with Edna (Chan) serves as the catalyst for unearthing fragments of his forgotten life, leading to a tense exploration of memory and self-discovery.
The stellar ensemble cast also includes May Calamawy, Olwen Fouéré, Toby Jones, Simon McBurney, Joe Cole, Tracey Ullman, Tanya Reynolds, Asim Chaudhry, Youssef Kerkour, Edward Hogg, Thomas Dominique, Fabien Frankel, and Scott Alexander Young.
The Actor marks the directorial debut of Duke Johnson, known for his work in stop-motion animation on shows such as Morel Orel, Mary Shelly’s Frankenhole, and Community. Johnson’s distinctive approach to storytelling is expected to bring a fresh perspective to this psychological thriller.
