The highly anticipated live-action television adaptation of Ponchan Chikyū no Osakana’s Kirio Fanclub manga has revealed its cast, staff, and a premiere date. The series is set to air on April 2, 2025, at 12:24 a.m. (effectively April 3) in the “Wednesday Platinum Night” timeslot on Chūkyō TV, Nippon TV, and their affiliate channels nationwide.
Mizuki Kayashima, known for her roles in My Love Story With Yamada-kun at Lv999 and Oshi no Ko, stars as Aimi Miyoshi, one of the lead characters. Riko from ArtisWitch will portray Nami Sometani, her classmate who shares a common crush on their fellow student, Kirio-kun.
The series is directed by Hatsuki Yokoo, recognized for his work on Inside Mari and A Devil and Her Love Song. The script will be penned by Nanoha Ito, who previously worked on Yaiteru Futari: Kosai 0-Nichi Kekkon kara Koi wo Hajimeyo. The music will be composed by Sōichi Ueda, with Miwa Kurito serving as chief producer.
The live-action series, described as an “unrequited romance comedy,” will explore the daily lives of Aimi and Nami as they navigate their high school years, each secretly harboring feelings for their classmate Kirio-kun.
Ponchan Chikyū no Osakana originally launched the Kirio Fanclub manga in 2022 on Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha’s Comic Ruelle platform, and concluded in August 2023. The sixth and final volume of the manga was released in September 2023. Additionally, an anime adaptation of the manga is currently in development.
