Filming has officially commenced on Apple TV+’s highly anticipated limited series Lucky, starring Anya Taylor-Joy and executive produced by Reese Witherspoon. Production began in Las Vegas before the show transitions to its primary filming location in Los Angeles.
The series, which also features Annette Bening, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Timothy Olyphant, and Drew Starkey, secured a $10.682 million California tax credit in December under the working title of an untitled Apple Studios project. This marks a key moment in the industry’s broader initiative to bring more productions to Los Angeles.
Lucky is based on Marissa Stapley’s bestselling novel and is written by Jonathan Tropper. The story follows a young woman, portrayed by Taylor-Joy, who left behind her troubled criminal past years ago. However, she is forced to confront her dark side once again in a final bid to break free from her haunting history.
Tropper will co-showrun and executive produce the series through his Tropper Ink banner, in partnership with co-showrunner Cassie Pappas. Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter will executive produce for Hello Sunshine, a division of Candle Media. Anya Taylor-Joy also serves as an executive producer through her production company, Ladykiller. Jonathan Van Tulleken will direct multiple episodes, including the pilot, and join as an executive producer.
