Apple TV+’s highly anticipated Cape Fear series adaptation has added another notable name to its ensemble cast. Patrick Wilson, known for his roles in The Conjuring and Insidious franchises, has been cast in the upcoming 10-episode thriller.

Created by Channel Zero mastermind Nick Antosca, who serves as the showrunner, writer, and executive producer, the series delves into a gripping tale of suspense and horror.

The official plot summary reveals the tension building in the lives of married attorneys Anna and Tom Bowden when Max Cady, a notorious killer from their past, is released from prison. Apple describes the series as “a tense, contemporary thriller that examines America’s obsession with true crime in the 21st century.”

The cast already includes Amy Adams, who will portray Anna Bowden, and Javier Bardem, cast as the chilling villain Max Cady. While details of Wilson’s role are yet to be confirmed, speculation suggests he may play Anna’s husband, Tom.

Antosca, a longtime fan of the Cape Fear films, brought the project to Universal and has previously created and worked on acclaimed series such as Channel Zero, A Friend of the Family, The Act, and Brand New Cherry Flavor. His notable contributions to Hannibal and Chucky also highlight his expertise in crafting psychological thrillers.

The new series draws inspiration from John D. MacDonald’s 1957 novel The Executioners, which was adapted into the 1962 classic Cape Fear, starring Gregory Peck. The 1991 remake by Martin Scorsese, featuring Robert De Niro, further cemented the story’s cultural impact. Both Scorsese and Steven Spielberg serve as executive producers for the new iteration.

Produced by UCP and Amblin Television, Cape Fear will also see Adams, Bardem, and Antosca among the executive producers, alongside Alex Hedlund of Eat The Cat and Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey from Amblin Television.

With key roles yet to be filled, including further details on Wilson’s character, fans can expect more updates on the series as its production continues to build momentum.
