Disney is set to return to the Descendants franchise for a fifth installment, continuing the storylines from 2024’s Descendants: The Rise of Red. The new film will feature fan-favorite characters, with Kylie Cantrall and Malia Baker reprising their roles as Red and Chloe, daughters of the Queen of Hearts and Cinderella, respectively. Leonardo Nam is also returning as Maddox Hatter.
The film, which will premiere on Disney Channel and Disney+, is expected to begin production soon. Kimmy Gatewood, known for her work on Girls5eva, will direct, with the script penned by Tamara Chestna (Sneakerella) alongside Rise of Red writers Dan Frey and Ru Sommer.
“The love for the Descendants franchise runs deep, and the incredible response to Descendants: The Rise of Red last year proved just how much fans are invested in these characters and their stories,” said Ayo Davis, President of Disney Branded Television. “Our next movie will build on that legacy and deliver even more of the magic, music, and heart that make Descendants so special — brought to life by an amazing cast and creative team who continue to elevate this world in new and exciting ways.”
Descendants 5, an official title to be revealed later, will explore what “happily ever after” really means for Red and Chloe, following their time-traveling adventures. Set mainly in present-day Wonderland, the sequel will examine the consequences hinted at in the previous movie: “There are consequences when you alter the fabric of time.”
In addition to Cantrall, Baker, and Nam, the cast will also feature Liamani Segura as Red’s sister, Pink, Brendon Tremblay as Max Hatter, Alexandro Byrd as Luis Madrigal, and Kiara Romero as Hazel Hook.
Suzanne Todd and Gary Marsh will executive produce the movie, with Gatewood and Chestna serving as co-executive producers. Emilio Dosal, known for his work on Wicked and Sneakerella, will choreograph the film’s music and dance sequences.
