Netflix has officially set the release date for Fear Street: Prom Queen, the highly anticipated fourth installment of the Fear Street horror franchise, which will debut on May 23, 2025. The announcement came with a special video from the series’ creator, R.L. Stine, shared during IGN Fan Fest. “Most people would say killing teenagers is not a good thing. But here I am, and here you are for another chapter of Fear Street,” Stine says, teasing the bloody chaos that’s to come.
The upcoming movie arrives nearly four years after the franchise’s groundbreaking streaming event in 2021, which saw the release of three Fear Street films over three consecutive weeks. Now, Fear Street: Prom Queen returns to the screen just in time for the start of prom season, promising more thrills and chills for horror fans.
Set between the events of Fear Street: 1994 and Fear Street: 1978, the film follows the students of Shadyside High as they prepare for their highly anticipated prom night. Directed by Matt Palmer (Calibre), Prom Queen dives back into the blood-soaked world of Shadyside, where prom season quickly descends into a nightmare. The plot revolves around a group of popular high school girls, referred to as the “It Girls,” who are locked in fierce competition for the coveted prom queen crown. However, when a daring outsider unexpectedly enters the running, and several of the girls begin to mysteriously disappear, the class of ’88 is in for a night they’ll never forget — if they even survive.
The film features an ensemble cast that includes India Fowler (The Nevers), Suzanna Son (Red Rocket), Fina Strazza (Paper Girls), David Iacono (The Summer I Turned Pretty), and Ella Rubin (The Idea of You), along with notable names like Chris Klein (American Pie), Lili Taylor (Outer Range), and Katherine Waterston (The End We Start From).
Ariana Greenblatt, Darrin Baker, Rebecca Ablack, Ilan O’Driscoll, Damian Romeo, Dakota Taylor, Eden Summer Gilmore, Brennan Clost, and Cecilia Lee round out the cast.
Based on R.L. Stine’s popular Fear Street book series, the screenplay was written by Matt Palmer and Donald Mcleary. The Fear Street books, which launched in 1989 with The New Girl, have become a staple in young adult horror literature, known for their gruesome and suspenseful storytelling.
With the film set to land on Netflix this May, fans can look forward to another summer of slasher mayhem as Fear Street continues to captivate audiences with its unique blend of horror, mystery, and teen drama.
