Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions have unveiled the official poster for the upcoming psychological thriller The Surfer, directed by Lorcan Finnegan, best known for Vivarium and Nocebo. The film set to hit theaters this spring, with a trailer drop yesterday, February 26.
The newly released poster has generated buzz, featuring rave reviews from major outlets such as Collider, First Showing, and the Irish Times. Reviewers have described the film as “99 minutes of pure sun-beaten terror” and a “paranoid tale of hysteria and craziness,” adding to the mounting anticipation.
In The Surfer, Nicolas Cage stars as a man returning to his Australian beachside hometown after years of living in the U.S. Upon his return, he faces humiliation at the hands of a local gang of surfers who claim exclusive control over the secluded beach where he spent his youth. The confrontation, which occurs in front of his teenage son, drives the man to stay and challenge the gang’s authority, ultimately escalating into a deadly battle that pushes him to the brink of madness.
Joining Cage in the cast are Julian McMahon, Nic Cassim, Miranda Tapsell, Alexander Bertrand, Justin Rosniak, Rahel Romahn, Finn Little, and Charlotte Maggi.
Lionsgate’s Lauren Bixby praised the film, noting that “Lorcan’s movie is a stunning visual experience with an incredible palette, coupled with Nicolas Cage at his absolute best.”
Written by Thomas Martin, The Surfer promises a tense and visually captivating cinematic experience this spring.
