Adele Lim to Lead ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ TV Series

by Barbara

The much-anticipated Crazy Rich Asians TV series has officially entered development, with Adele Lim set to take the reins as executive producer, writer, and showrunner. Lim, who co-wrote the 2018 hit film alongside Peter Chiarelli, will bring her vision to the small screen.

Joining Lim in the project’s leadership are Jon M. Chu, the original film’s director, who will executive produce through his Electric Somewhere banner, and Kevin Kwan, the author of the Crazy Rich Asians novels, who will also serve as an executive producer. Max confirmed that the series will draw from Kwan’s broader book series, including China Rich Girlfriend, Rich People Problems, and Lies and Weddings.

The Crazy Rich Asians film, which became a cultural milestone for its all-Asian cast, followed the story of Rachel Chu (Constance Wu), an Asian-American professor who discovers her boyfriend, Nick Young (Henry Golding), is part of one of Asia’s wealthiest families. The story delves into themes of class, identity, and family expectations as Rachel navigates the extravagant world of the ultra-wealthy, while facing resistance from Nick’s mother and the pressures of their lavish lifestyle.
