Production has officially kicked off for HBO’s highly anticipated drama series Lanterns on the historic Warner Bros. lot in Burbank. The series, an HBO Original in collaboration with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios, is inspired by the iconic DC comic title Green Lantern.
The storyline follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic law enforcement officers who are pulled into a dark, earthbound mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.
The cast includes Aaron Pierre, Kyle Chandler, Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, and Ulrich Thomsen.
Chris Mundy, the show’s Executive Producer and Showrunner, shared his vision for the series: “From the start, our driving force has been to deliver a layered drama—rooted in nuanced storytelling and rich world-building—that balances tension and mystery with honest, authentic emotion. Our goal is to create something timeless and grounded without sacrificing the magic of the source material.”
The Lanterns pilot is co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, with the first two episodes directed by James Hawes. Additional directors include Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Alik Sakharov. The series is executive produced by Mundy, Lindelof, James Gunn, Peter Safran, King, Ron Schmidt, and Hawes, with the narrative based on the Green Lantern comics from DC.
