by Barbara

Robert Pattinson recently sat down with to chat with his “Mickey 17” co-star Naomi Ackie, and the conversation briefly veered toward his portrayal of Batman. Pattinson, who made his debut as the iconic Dark Knight in Matt Reeves’ The Batman (2022), shared his thoughts on reprising the role in the highly anticipated sequel, which is expected to hit theaters in 2027.

When Ackie asked if he would return as Batman soon, Pattinson responded with a laugh, saying, “I fucking hope so.” He continued with a tongue-in-cheek comment about aging: “I started out as young Batman, and I’m going to be fucking old Batman by the sequel… I’m 38, I’m old.” However, he quickly clarified, “I’m old, but I’m healthier. I think I’ve actually brought my biological age down a bit.”

Pattinson also gave an update during a recent interview at the London premiere of Mickey 17. The actor revealed that he expects to begin filming The Batman 2 by the end of 2025. While he teased that he already knows the plot of the sequel, he remained tight-lipped, saying, “And I know what it’s about but I can’t tell anyone. But it’s like, it’s very cool. It’s very exciting.”

James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, addressed the extended delay for the sequel’s release, which was pushed from October 2026 to October 2027. Gunn defended the timeline, noting that long gaps between sequels are common in Hollywood. He cited examples such as the seven-year wait between Alien and Aliens, the 14-year gap between The Incredibles films, and even the 36-year hiatus between Top Gun and its sequel.

“Matt [Reeves] is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write,” Gunn added in a separate post. “Once there is a finished script, there is around two years for pre-production, shooting, and post-production on big films.”

Gunn has repeatedly emphasized that no movie under the DC Studios banner will enter production without a completed script. “It is hard enough making a good movie with a good script. It’s almost impossible making a movie with a script that you’re writing on the run,” Gunn explained.
