Bleecker Street has secured the North American distribution rights for the upcoming horror film The Third Parent, which features a star-studded cast including Rob Lowe, Crispin Glover, and Roselyn Sanchez. The film, produced by Walters Media Group, is set for a nationwide theatrical release.
The Third Parent marks the feature debut of producer David Michaels, who will also write and direct the project. The film is based on the viral “creepypasta” series created by writer Elias Witherow, which are internet-based horror stories. Set during a Fourth of July celebration, the story introduces a chilling character named Tommy Taffy, who disguises himself as a human to infiltrate a suburban neighborhood. He imposes an authoritarian rule over an unsuspecting family, sending them into a spiral of fear.
Bleecker Street executives Andrew Karpen and Kent Sanderson praised the film’s potential to redefine horror. “Crispin Glover’s portrayal of Tommy Taffy promises to be the next great horror villain,” they said in a statement. “With Gary’s exceptional track record as a producer and David’s bold vision, coupled with the compelling performances from Rob Lowe and Roselyn Sanchez, we are confident this will be a unique and terrifying experience for audiences.”
Gary Michael Walters, CEO of Walters Media Group, expressed excitement about partnering with Bleecker Street on this project. “I am thrilled to be part of Bleecker Street’s expansion into the horror genre. Andrew and Kent’s support for this project has been incredible,” Walters commented.
The film is produced by Gary Michael Walters for Walters Media, known for hits like Whiplash and Nightcrawler, while retaining ownership of the intellectual property. Lowe serves as a producer alongside Spencer Young for Enfant Terrible, and Jonathan Halperyn and Daniel Kresmery for Hero Squared. Executive producers include Jack Roberts for Lesnik Entertainment, Drake Dowd and Kristen Gilot-Dowd for Dowd Films, and Karpen and Sanderson for Bleecker Street.
Rob Lowe, known for his roles in The West Wing, Parks and Recreation, and 9-1-1: Lone Star, as well as films like St. Elmo’s Fire and The Outsiders, is also the host and producer of Fox’s The Floor. He is a bestselling author, having penned memoirs including Stories I Only Tell My Friends and Love Life.
Crispin Glover, famous for his roles in Back to the Future and River’s Edge, has also appeared in TV series such as American Gods and Texas Rising. Roselyn Sanchez, known for her work on TV shows like Fantasy Island and Devious Maids, and films such as Rush Hour 2 and The Game Plan, is also a director and producer. She recently completed her directorial debut with the feature film Diario: Mujer y Café.
