Actress Amanda Seyfried makes her return to the big screen in Seven Veils, a psychological drama directed by the renowned Atom Egoyan. The film, which will be released in select theaters nationwide on March 7, 2025, explores the complex emotional and professional journey of a theater director haunted by her past.

In Seven Veils, Seyfried stars as Jeanine, a theater director who steps back into the world of opera after a long hiatus to stage a production of her former mentor’s iconic work. As Jeanine delves deeper into the production, dark and disturbing memories from her past resurface, causing her personal and professional life to unravel in unsettling ways.

The film also stars Rebecca Liddiard, Douglas Smith, Mark O’Brien, Vinessa Antoine, Ambur Braid, and Michael Kupfer-Radecky. The story is set against the backdrop of a visually captivating production of the opera Salome, which Egoyan previously directed in 1996. This connection to Salome holds a deeper significance for Egoyan, who saw an opportunity to bring the opera’s themes into a contemporary context.

Egoyan, known for his work on films such as Exotica and The Sweet Hereafter, has crafted Seven Veils as a unique exploration of the intersection between personal trauma and the world of professional theater. The film was shot during the staging of Egoyan’s production of Salome, blending the opera’s rehearsal environment with the narrative’s psychological drama. Egoyan notes that the film is not about the opera itself, but rather about using the opera’s world as a metaphor for workplace dynamics.

In a statement, Egoyan explained, “It’s not really an opera movie, it’s just using the world of the opera as a workplace, like any workplace. We see the characters as they float in and out of scenes dealing with the preparation of the opera.” The director’s interest in how the themes of Salome intersect with modern-day challenges prompted him to write the script, further adding depth to the narrative.

For those eager to see the film, Seven Veils will open in theaters this Friday. Be sure to catch the official trailer for a glimpse into the intriguing world of Egoyan’s latest project.
