A24 Reveals Trailer for Iraq War Film ‘Warfare’

by Barbara

A24 has released an “inside look” trailer for its highly anticipated Iraq War action film Warfare, co-written and co-directed by Iraq War veteran Ray Mendoza and acclaimed filmmaker Alex Garland. The film promises an authentic and gripping portrayal of the harrowing experiences faced by soldiers during the war, grounded in Mendoza’s personal account.

Mendoza, a former member of SEAL Team 5, draws from his own experiences to craft a compelling narrative. Having served as a military supervisor to Garland on the 2016 film Civil War, the two now collaborate on this deeply personal project. The film’s premise is rooted in Mendoza’s real-life service as a Navy SEAL, spanning over 16 years and including his pivotal role in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The movie’s official synopsis states: “Based on the real-life experiences of ex-Navy SEAL Ray Mendoza during the Iraq War, Warfare follows his journey from joining the Navy in 1997 to becoming a member of SEAL Team 5. Mendoza was awarded the Silver Star for ‘conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy’ during a critical mission in Ramadi on November 19, 2006, while serving as the Lead Communicator for Naval Special Warfare Task Unit-Ramadi in direct support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.”
